Industry Experts Panel

December 8, 2008

What an amazing week!

As part of this project and with the assistance of Andrea Higgins, Sector Development Manager at Artisan, I have brought together a number of experts in the art, craft and design sectors in Brisbane to discuss the project’s direction and relevant issues from design and production to marketing.

Sitting on the panel are:

I am so incredibly grateful to work with these talented individuals, respected in their fields, who have dedicated their time and energy to email, phone and live discussions about the work.

Last Thursday, we met at Artisan for a project ‘diagnostic’ and stimulating conversation about ‘making place’ and ‘connecting people and place’, which are the concepts at the heart of this project. Set against the backdrop of the current full-size proofs for wallpaper/textiles and a couple of works from the Digital Rug and Textile Sample series, the discussion covered aspects of visual presentation and conceptual rigour to allow me to identify ‘what is missing?’

Without going into too much detail in this blog, the session exceeded my expectations regarding everyone’s passion for the project and the collective consciousness of where I am on track and where I might be able to focus more energy. This wasn’t a ‘how to fix’ or ‘prescriptive solution’ session, it was about recognising the potential to really communicate the connection between people and place through the visual elements and physical construction of the prototypes.

Absolutely deemed a success, I would like to thank my Industry Experts for their contribution to the project thus far. I would like to extend a big thank you to Artisan for hosting the session and their ongoing support to craft and design practitioners and the sector in general.

Wishing you all a safe and festive season. See you in 2009!

Congratulations to Wei Shun Lee and her partner for the birth of Xi-an on 4 December.
