Brisbane City Botanic Gardens Annual Reports by Walter Hill

March 22, 2010

As part of my research on the life and work of Walter Hill for my project Botanica (working title), I visited the Queensland Herbarium to review the Annual Reports he submitted to the Governor of Queensland from 1855 to 1881, on the work undertaken at and through the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens.

These reports are invaluable as they itemise the plants that were sourced for and donated to the Gardens, and detail the work Hill undertook in regional Queensland during those early and burgeoning years of Queensland agriculture.

It is wonderful that these records have been preserved, as it is these and many other documents like them, which build a picture of the place in which we live today.

Many thanks to the very helpful staff at the Queensland Herbarium!
