Ron Mueck

May 22, 2010

Brisbane is exploding with top notch shows at the moment at artist run initiatives, not-for-profit organisations and the state’s premier art gallery…

The Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) is currently showing a survey of major works by Australian-born, London-based sculptor Ron Mueck. Mueck’s sculptures are distinctive, obsessively detailed and eerily contemplative. “Often naked and suspended in states of self-consciousness, introspection or deep contemplation, his figures present both emotional and physical states of exposure. Astounding in their realism, Mueck’s works have earned him a singular place as the creator of some of the most evocative sculptures of our time.” [From the exhibition summary on QAG’s website.]

It is one of the most comprehensive exhibitions of Mueck’s work ever presented and not to be missed. Be mindful however, with some explicit content, it might not be for everyone.

Showing until 1 August 2010 at the Queensland Art Gallery.
