Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards

I managed to squeeze in half an hour between events at the 2009 Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards Brisbane launch at Cloudland last night.

All 10 finalists were exhibited and the overall winner, Rohan Nicol, gave a short speech about how the Award has advanced his winning prototype, ‘Peppered Sunlight’, and the exceptional experience that was the Salone del Mobile, Milan 2010.

The Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award is presented annually to recognise outstanding work by emerging Australian designers. This design initiative is part of Bombay Sapphire’s continued commitment to reward and assist Australian designers in developing their careers and by doing so also supports the continued growth of the Australian design community. The Award consists of a $30,000 cash prize and a trip to the Salone del Mobile, Milan. The four runners up are given $2,500 and the further five finalists, $1,000, plus all the exposure and recognition that goes along with such a well-publicized award.

Rohan was presented his award by the Dutch international designer, Maarten Baas at the awards ceremony last year. For me, that would be a great incentive to enter just of itself!

For details of the awards and how to enter, visit the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Awards website.
