Designer Rugs – Evolve Awards 2010

June 28, 2010

Designer Rugs have launched the inaugural Evolve Awards, a design competition open to architects, interior designers and interior design industry professionals. Six winning designs will each be made into an edition of 30 rugs and will form part of Designer Rugs’ ID COLLECTION 2010/2011. The finalists will also be in the running for more than $20,000 in prizes, including a trip to Milan Salone de Mobile 2011.

The judging panel will be considering submitted designs by rating each on the following:

• Overall concept and originality of design
• Innovation: judges will assess if submitted designs bring new concept to finished rugs
• Commercial viability of the rug design
• Demonstrated understanding of hand-made rug construction

While Anne-Maree Sargeant will facilitate workshops & the judging process, the judges include:

Sibella Court: Society Inc. Retailer, internationally renowned Interior Stylist, Author and Colour Consultant
Shareen Joel: Interior Architect and Industrial Designer
Matthew Sheargold: Interior Designer and Product Designer
Stephen Ormandy: Co-Director, Dinosaur Designs and artist
Eli Tal: Chairman, Designer Rugs
Yosi Tal: Managing Director, Designer Rugs

So, my designs have been sent off and my fingers are crossed. Two months ago, there were already over 750 registrations, so the standard I’m sure will be high and the competition fierce!

Argh, I’d love to see the leaves as a lush rug! Fingers crossed too 🙂
