Seven with Another – Fifth Edition
Seven with Another is back again in May with the exhibition’s Fifth Edition and I’ve been invited to participate. Co-founded and co-curated by freelance graphic designer, Monique Kneepkens and JosephMark’s creative director, Jessica Huddart, the project brings together 14 creatives from cross-disciplines to collaborate in teams of two on a given theme. It’s no surprise to die-hard followers of this project that the next theme is ‘fifth/five’, given that each of the previous shows were also defined by their number in the series.
I’m delighted to be working with well-known composer and musician, Robert Davidson. Robert’s bio is long and wide and among his many achievements is the creation of Topology, currently the Brisbane Powerhouse’s band in residence. Their performances are highly sought after and are experiencing much international success.
The challenge here is for Robert and I to work between our respective mediums–visual and audio, looking and listening, viewing and making sound–and respond to the theme with a piece that embodies the synergy of the collaborative process, while articulating individual voices. The other challenge is to work with someone we haven’t met before, so at the same time we are developing the piece, we are getting to know one another–our methodologies for working and creative processes. Almost one third of the way in, we are excited about the direction of our collaboration and with regular commitment to the development of the work, we are on track.
